COUNCILLORS have shared their shock and upset after a stabbing in the Horsefair on the weekend.

A man was stabbed outside Pizza Lounge on Dudley Street in Kidderminster on Saturday evening (October 19).

The 28-year-old was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and has since been discharged.

Wyre Forest District Councillors representing the Horsefair area have shared concerns following the incident.

Councillor Mary Rayner said: "I'm upset and shocked. It's very upsetting when any of this happens.

"I'm hoping he is making a good recovery.

"I hope we can find out why this has happened and prevent anything like this happening again in the future".

Councillor Peter Young said: "I think what we need in Horsefair is for more of a uniformed police presence and we need it after seven in the evening".

Councillor Mary McDonnell described the incident was "terrible."

She added: "It's shocking but it's not come out of the blue - there have been other things like this.

"I know the police are working hard to improve the area".

Inspector Dan Poucher, who leads the safer neighbourhood teams in the area, said: “We understand this incident may have caused some alarm in the local community, however I’d like to reassure people that it was isolated and as such we don’t believe there is a risk to the wider public as a result.

"The Horsefair area is regularly patrolled by local officers and this will continue.

"As always, we encourage anyone with concerns about crime in their local area to discuss this with their local policing team.

"The safer neighbourhood team for the Horsefair area can be contacted on broadwaters.snt@westmercia.police.uk.”

“In order to complete the picture of that happened on Saturday evening, I am continuing to appeal for any witnesses to come forward with any information that may help with our investigation”.
