An air quality action plan is set to be considered to reduce levels of nitrogen dioxide in areas of Bewdley and Kidderminster.

An action plan to improve the air quality in the district will be considered by Wyre Forest District Council's Overview and Scrutiny Committee next month.

The document outlines the measures the council and its partners plan to take between 2025 and 2030 to reduce levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) in the Air Quality Management Areas of the Welch Gate in Bewdley and the Horsefair and Coventry Street in Kidderminster.

The levels of nitrogen dioxide in these areas are just on or near the amount to trigger the need for an Air Quality Action Plan.

Having this plan will enable the Council to make sure it reduces levels further.

The draft action plan includes support for the take-up of electric vehicles, measures to boost cycling and other forms of active travel, improvements to the taxi fleet and bus services as well as making the district council’s vehicles more environmentally efficient.

Councillor Nicky Martin, chairperson of Wyre Forest District Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee, said: "For six months a group of officers from the council and our partners have been working on this action plan.

"It sets out a list of actions that the organisations will be taking and how to get residents on board to improve air quality too.

"The committee will be analysing the plan to make sure that we have achievable actions to improve air quality in the district."

The Overview and Scrutiny Committee is taking place at 6pm on Thursday, November 7.

Other items on the agenda include an update on the second quarter of the budget and a fleet and garage service review.
