CONSERVATIVE MP Mark Garnier is "delighted" after being appointed shadow economic secretary to the Treasury.

The Wyre Forest MP now has a new shadow government role, and will be holding the economic secretary to the Treasury, Tulip Siddiq, to account.

The appointment follows the election of Kemi Badenoch as Conservative Party leader, with the new opposition leader appointing Mel Stride as shadow chancellor of the exchequer and former party chairman Richard Fuller as shadow Treasury chief secretary.

In a statement on the new appointment, Mr Garnier said on X: "Delighted to be appointed shadow economic secretary to the Treasury.

"I look forward to working on building a fairer, stronger economy for our country, tackling the challenges ahead, and ensuring prosperity works for everyone".
