A MAN and a woman have been arrested after armed police descended on Cleobury Mortimer.

The man, aged 58, and a 57-year-old woman, have been arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of a firearm after police were called to Love Lane, which is near Cleobury Mortimer Primary School. 

Armed officers responded to reports of an assault and found a man with a minor head injury this morning (Tuesday November 12) at around 11.35am.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said the man and woman arrested are "both currently in police custody."

Officers are expected to be in the area collecting evidence this afternoon.

A spokesperson for Shropshire Police said: "You may have been made aware or have been sent posts on social media regarding an incident and an increased police presence including armed officers in Cleobury Mortimer.

"The incident was contained within a short area and an arrest has been made.

"There will be further officers in the area for several hours whilst evidence is sought and documented.

"There is no risk to the wider public and this incident is now over."
