A cinema in Kidderminster has officially undergone a major revamp with a special nod  to the town's "cherished" past.

Lume Cinema on Green Street is one of the last remaining independent cinemas in the Midlands and was taken over by new owner Sachia Mooney in July.

The team are now thrilled to announce its rebrand as Futurist Cinema this November with the name paying homage to the town's storied cinema history.

Taking inspiration from Kidderminster's original Futurist Cinema on Vicar Street, which opened in 1912 as The Picture House before choosing the name Futurist in 1928, the cinema remained a cornerstone of entertainment until its closure in 1962.

Mr Mooney said: "We're excited to carry forward the Futurist name. The original Futurist Cinema was a cherished part of Kidderminster's cultural landscape and we want to bring that same spirit of creativity and community to our cinema today.

"With this change, we're not only celebrating our town's past but also looking to the future with our growing line-up of screenings and events that will bring people together."

Since taking over the cinema in July, Mr Mooney and his team have been dedicated to revitalising the venue with a fresh vision.

The decision to rename Lume Cinema reflects their commitment to honouring Kidderminster's cinematic heritage whilst embracing a forward-looking approach that celebrates the best of independent film, blockbuster hits and immersive cinematic experiences.

The cinema has quickly become a hub for film lovers offering a variety of screenings and community events including screening from local filmmakers and an independent film festival with Treasured Films.

Mr Mooney added: "The Futurist Cinema name also signals a turning of the page from the past ownership and is a statement of our commitment to providing an inclusive, vibrant space for Kidderminster's community.

"We are also thrilled to be working with Bewdley Brewery and championing other local businesses.

"With this fresh start, we look forward to establishing the Futurist Cinema as a destination for film enthusiasts and a platform for exciting collaborations within the local arts and business community."

Futurist Cinema also has a fully licensed cafe bar serving a wide selection of drinks including local ales from Bewdley Brewery as part of a new collaboration.

There are also cinema favourites including popcorn, nachos and confectionary.

The cinema also offers private screen hire, baby and toddler clubs and silver screenings every Tuesday and Wednesday for the over-60s with a hot drink included in the ticket price.
