SEVERN Trent Water has apologised as Kidderminster's 'noisiest drain cover' which sounds like gunshots still hasn't been fixed.

Complaints have been raised over the faulty manhole cover which has been plaguing residents for months on Sutton Park Road.

One resident says it resembles a gunshot sound when cars drive over it, and that it's even louder when lorries drive over it.

Resident Michael Sellman says it's "absolutely disgraceful" that the drain cover hasn't been fixed after raising the issue in July.

He said residents living within earshot are enduring disrupted sleep and "heightened anxiety".

He said: "Its deteriorated state has led to loud double bangs — resembling gunshots — every time a vehicle passes over it.

"The frequency of traffic traversing this hazardous cover exceeds 300 cars per day".

"It goes on all day and it goes on all night".

Ian Miller, chief executive of Wyre Forest District Council, has taken to X, formerly Twitter to also complain about the noisy drain cover not being fixed, and says it "needs more than blue paint."

He's referred to it as "Kidderminster's noisiest drain cover."

A spokesperson for Severn Trent Water, said: “We’d like to apologise for the time that it’s taken to resolve the issue with the manhole on Sutton Park Road.

"We have ordered a replacement cover and will get these works completed as soon as possible.”
