Huge crowds gathered to kick off festivities at the Stourport Christmas light switch-on and parade.

Described as a "bigger crowd than in previous years", hundreds of people lined the streets to cheer on the Three Kings Parade led by children from St Bartholomew's Primary School and Astley CofE Primary School.

Children and parents from six other schools, youth groups and more also took part in the parade with onlookers amazed by the dazzling costumes and floats on display.

From live music and street food to an action-packed parade and fireworks, there was something to make sure everyone was feeling the Christmas spirit.

A number of traders and businesses were also on hand selling tasty treats and drinks to those in attendance thanks to the support of Andy Dyer from Eat Street Repeat who offers his help for free.

After the parade had drawn to a close by making its way through the town to the Civic Centre, the Stourport lights were officially switched on shortly after 7pm by Father Christmas, Mayor John Thomas and the Carnival Queen Jasmine Simpson.

This was followed by an incredible fireworks display which officially marked the start of Christmas.

Following the event, Stourport Town Council took to social media to thank visitors for their support.

They said: "Thank you everyone for a wonderful evening."

In a post, councillor Tracey Onslow said: "Well done Stourport. Tonight I've joined Mayor John Thomas for the Three Kings Parade, which was absolutely packed again.

"The town’s Christmas lights were switched on as the parade reached them, and they even managed to find some snow."

Severn Area Rescue Association Wyre Forest Station added: "We were out tonight at the Three Kings Parade and Christmas Light Switch on in Stourport.

"It was a fantastic turnout and we thank the organisers for inviting us to join the magical parade."
