A dedicated police dog has retired after years of loyal service.
PD Waffle, who will be six in January, joined his handler Glenn in December 2019 after being rescued by the Dogs Trust.
West Mercia Police said Waffle’s career almost ended before it even started after being scared to climb the stairs.
Thanks to the amazing kennel staff, Waffle overcame his fears and after completing an eight-week specialist search course, he became a qualified Special Search Dog in February 2020.
Since then, he has found tons of drugs and cash and made a real impact on keeping the community safe.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: “Whilst most dogs are all about tennis balls, Waffle prefers meatballs as his favourite reward for being a good boy.
“Now, Waffle is retiring to a loving home with his new dad, Ian, who works as part of the police staff at West Mercia Police.
“After a fun home visit where he searched his new place, he wasted no time claiming his favourite spot – the sofa.
“Although he will miss his colleagues and friend RPD Shadow, he will also miss Glenn immensely. However, he is really looking forward to living in his new home with Ian and Debs.
“He will receive ongoing support throughout his retirement by West Mercia Retired Police Dogs Welfare Fund
“Thank you, Waffle, for your service. Enjoy your well-earnt rest.”
