A FLOOD warning is in place for the River Severn at Bewdley due to Storm Bert's heavy rainfall.

The Environment Agency updated its flood warning for the River Severn at Wribbenhall in Bewdley this morning (Tuesday November 26) at around 9am.

Flood defences were deployed on the Severn side on Sunday (November 24) but they cannot be deployed on the Beales corner side as work is underway to construct a permanent flood defence scheme.

The Environment Agency said: "As previously communicated the Barriers at Beales Corner will not be deployed due to the construction of the Flood Risk Management Scheme.

"Predicted Peak:- Bewdley 3.9m to 4.3m overnight tonight into tomorrow morning, the 27/11/24."

At around 10.10am this morning the River Severn level at Bewdley was 3.55 metres.

Property flooding is possible when it goes above 5 metres.

The Environment Agency said yesterday (Monday) that river levels are expected to remain high for the next few days and warning that "we expect flooding to affect low lying land & roads adjacent the river from Highley to Tewkesbury. Locations affected are Stourport, Holt Fleet, Worcester, Kempsey, Severn Stoke & Upton upon Severn. Install property level protection if required."

It said it is "closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are liaising with emergency services and Local Authorities.

"Please plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded, and avoid contact with flood water".
