A new ANPR system has officially been installed at a pub car park in Wolverley.

Marston's has confirmed that the new system has been installed on the Lock Inn car park off Wolverley Road.

The pub chain said there are two tablets for guests to register their cars for up to four hours of free parking.

There is also a tablet at the Old Smithy Tea Rooms which will offer the same amount of free parking for its customers.

Anyone not using the car park for the pub or the tearoom can still park at the site for a fee.

Payments can be made via a parking app.

The news has been met with mixed reactions from the community with many parents and carers using the car park to drop off and pick up their children who attend Wolverley CE Secondary School and Sixth Form.

Others appreciated that staff and customers at the pub found parking at the site difficult during school hours.

In a post on social media, The Lock Inn stressed that customers would not be penalised and the move is to benefit customers by ensuring they always have a car parking space.

A spokesperson for Marston's said: "I can confirm cameras have been installed at The Lock.

"There are two tablets for guests to register their cars for four hours of free parking. There is also a tablet in the tearooms offering the same.

"Anyone using the car park and not using the pub or the tearoom can pay for parking using an app."

The Lock Inn and Wolverley CE Secondary School and Sixth Form have been contacted for a comment.
