A CONSULTATION has been launched into plans to introduce a new speed limit on roads in Bewdley town centre after a 'twenty is plenty' campaign.

Roads in the area that could have speed limits cut to 20mph include Load Street, High Street, Dog Lane, Welch Gate, and Lax Lane.

Worcestershire County Councillor Dan Morehead says he has been working with residents, the town council and on behalf of community groups that have been asking for a 20mph speed limit in the centre of Bewdley for ten years.

Councillor Morehead said he stood with a manifesto commitment to get a 20mph scheme developed and through to public consultation following a longstanding campaign by residents.

He said he is "delighted" that Worcestershire County Council are now making a proposed order to impose a 20mph Zone for the town centre of Bewdley.

Councillor Morehead said: "I'm pleased that we have been able to get this consultation into the public domain at long last.

"The proposed scheme will cover the highly pedestrianised, narrow streets in the immediate town centre as can be seen on the map.

"This proposal has been through the statutory consultation and is now at the stage where public comments are being invited up until December 27th 2024".

Whether you are in favour or against this proposal, councillor Morehead asks that comments are sent to roadtrafficregs@worcestershire.gov.uk from Thursday (November 28) as it’s "critical" that public opinion is heard.

If the scheme is supported, it is expected to be introduced in late spring 2025.
