WYRE Forest District Council has provided an update on work to transform the former Woolworths site in Kidderminster into a park.

The popular high street store, which was closed in 2008, was demolished along with other shops including the old Megavalue, Poundland, and Sigma Aquatics on Worcester Street, Kidderminster.

It's to make way for a new open space in the town centre. The public park will feature sloping grass terraces, trees, planting, seating, walls and new lighting.

The Kidderminster Drone Facebook account has been sharing video updates of work on social media.

In an update on the progress, councillor Dan Morehead, Wyre Forest District Council’s cabinet member for economic regeneration, planning and the green agenda said: “We’re pleased to see the Worcester Street regeneration project progressing well, which showcases the dedication of all teams involved in delivering a transformative development for Kidderminster.

“The site is fully operational, with significant milestones already achieved including installation of attenuation tanks and preparatory work for further infrastructure enhancements.

"Excavation efforts are advancing efficiently, while detailed designs and environmental safeguards ensure the project aligns with the highest standards.

“Safety and sustainability remain top priorities. We have comprehensive site security, regular inspections and proactive noise and dust management measures in place. Looking ahead, upcoming works include further tank installations, drainage connections, and landscaping preparations.

“The project is set for completion in August 2025. It will transform the area into a vibrant and accessible public space that will benefit the local community and support the viability of the future development of the Lionfields site by connecting it to the Town Centre”.
