An investigation is underway after "burnt products were deposited through a letterbox" during a break-in. 

West Mercia Police said they received reports of a break-in at a property on Park Lane in Kidderminster. 

Officers attended the scene at around 1.30am today (Tuesday, December 3) to find the front window of the house had been smashed and an attempt to start a fire had been made. 

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service also sent crews from Wyre Forest and Bromsgrove Fire Stations to the scene following a smell of smoke at the home. 

Access was gained and investigations were carried out using a thermal imaging camera. 

There was no sign of a fire but an alarm had been activated due to burnt products being thrown through the letterbox. 

Police said no arrests have been made but enquiries are ongoing. 

A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Two Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews - one each from Wyre Forest and Bromsgrove Fire Stations - assisted by a Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service crew from Kinver were called at 1.54am on December 3 to a smell of smoke at a property in Park Lane, Kidderminster.

"Access was gained to the property and investigations were carried out using a thermal imaging camera.

"There was no sign of fire but an alarm was located which had been activated due to burnt products being deposited through a letterbox. The incident was marked as pending closure at 2.46am."

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We received a report of a break-in at a property on Park Lane, Kidderminster at around 1.30am today (Tuesday, December 3).

"Officers attended to find a front window of a house had been smashed and an attempt to start a fire had been made.

"No arrests have been made. Enquiries are ongoing."
