There has been a lot of talk recently about reducing our collective carbon footprint. The Government have decided that radical action is called for despite the fact that we have been warned about global warming for the past twenty years.
Most people people do their level best to reduce their carbon output. It´s the Business world that needs to play it´s part, their ethos is centered on money. Good will and concern for the environment are all well and good but they don´t make the world go round. Another decade of that attitude and the world won´t be going anywhere.
I´m all for reducing our impact, using less power, recycling and getting those hulking great 4x4´s off the road. However this is all fairly pointless, I agree with it all but that does´t alter the fact that we are fighting a losing battle.
If we in Britain, collectively cut our carbon levels by half it still wouldn´t make a great difference. The United States and China have the highest levels of carbon pollution in the world and both governments seemingly couldn´t give two hoots about the state of the environment.
George Bush almost had to be forced at gun point to agree to sign up to a clean air bill while the Chinese are too busy riding rough shot over Tibet to spare any time to combat their pollution, despite that being one of the factors for China hosting the 2008 Olympic Games.
Living in a World with clean air and a fully functioning ozone layer is a nice idea but it may already be too late to do make a difference.
