For some time now, I have had my suspicions that, we, as a nation, have gone soft.
Allow me to explain, how I arrived at this conclusion.
It is all to do with the humble lamp post. Not just any lamp post though, this one is the well-padded version.
The lamp posts in Brick Lane, in East London, have been wrapped in a special padding, as part of a trial.
If successful, padded lamp posts could be coming to an area near you.
Now this has come about, because Brick Lane has been highlighted as the most dangerous place for mobile phone users to be texting. It appears that its mobile phone users are oblivious to lamp posts. These Londoners, frequently sustain injuries, ranging from bruises to broken bones.
Text Information Services, 118 118, surveyed 1,055 Britons. One in ten, said they had injured themselves while walking and texting in the last 12 months. Nearly half of those asked, said they would be happy to see padded lamp posts. Plus one in four, would support a coloured line on the road, to guide texters.
The padded lamp post pilot scheme, will be overseen by 118 118, in conjunction with the public space charity, Living Streets. Polls will be conducted in Brick Lane, to gauge the response. If well received, the scheme could be rolled out nationwide.
But hey! It isn't the text walkers I feel sympathy with, it's the dog walkers.
Or, should I be more explicit, their dogs.
Because, cocking a leg at the lamp post, will never be the same again, for these poor dogs.....
