So Joe Calzaghe has decided to hang up his gloves and retire undefeated in what has been a superb boxing career with 46 fights and 46 wins with 32 knockouts to become only the third European boxer in history to retire undefeated as world champion.
Voted by some of the worlds best pundits Calzaghe has been one of the best pound for pound fighters of his time beating some of the greats along the way, scoring points victories over the likes of Chris Eubank,Jeff Lacy,Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr winning world titles at both super middleweight and light heavyweight and holding the wbo title for over 10 years.
In 2007 Calzaghe became the 2nd Welshman to win the BBC sports personality of the year award beating the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Ricky Hatton and also became a CBE in the Queens birthday honours list of 2008.
All in all Joe Clazaghe has been and will be a true British sporting great for quite some time and its going to take someone quite a while to achieve what he has in boxing and I'm glad he got out the ring at the right time undefeated a true champion and a British boxing legend.
