I'm no fan of Chelsea but I can't understand the fuss of Phil Scolari's sacking this week.

True, he hadn't had long enough to stamp his mark on the club and was still very much in Premier League title race, Champions League and FA Cup but there had been a terrible decline in the form and results with a world class squad.

Chelsea's resources and recent history mean that they are a club that demands results and he wasn't able to generate them. It's a fact of modern day football at the very highest level, if you don't succeed immediately your are a failure.

Scolari must have known that he couldn't lose. If he did well then he enhances his reputation as a manager and if he's sacked then he's reimbursed handsomely for his troubles.

All this feeling sorry for the millionaire Brazillians is mis-played and while there are lots of arguments about a lack of stability at the club I don't think they add up.

This week's events highlight who's really in charge of Chelsea (and has been since he bought the club). And that's Roman Ambrovich.

Save the sympathy for people out there who are losing jobs and struggling to find a new one.
