Five students on the Enterprise for Employment course at Kidderminster College have been busy working in partnership with Brinton’s Park Nursery to plant and grow plants that will adorn the streets of Kidderminster in the coming weeks. Better still, the students have also sold some of the plants they’ve grown raising over £280 for Kidderminster Hospital’s Millbrook Suite Appeal.
Enterprise for Employment is a specialist course for learners with moderate learning and physical difficulties. Part of this course is focussed upon learning outside of the classroom and sees students working with local employers.
Working in conjunction with the district council’s Parks Officer, Kidderminster College struck a partnership with Brinton’s Park Nursery for students to undertake work as Ground Maintenance staff. This is the first year of this successful partnership and having learnt basic knowledge of planting and parks maintenance, students have recently planted out floral displays ready to brighten up Kidderminster’s Market Street.
Sharon Strange, Enterprise for Employment tutor said: “Our work with Brinton’s Park is providing our students with a valuable opportunity to gain new skills. The team have really enjoyed the project; they’ve felt an important part of the local community and have gained increased confidence in themselves. The team at Brinton’s Park are fantastic with the students and we truly feel that everyone involved has benefitted from such a successful partnership.”
