A SEWING school for youngsters, a woman who has opened up her own hotel and the owner of an old-fashioned sweet shop are among the 12 longlisted entrants in our Business Idol competition.

The event, launched by the Kidderminster Big Breakfast Club in association with the Kidderminster Shuttle and the Stourbridge News, has set out to find the most promising fledgling businesses in the two areas.

Three finalists will be chosen in the next few weeks to attend a gala evening at La Brasserie, Kidderminster, on July 8, when the winner will receive a £1,000 cheque, free membership of the Breakfast Club and be offered up to £2,500 worth of free business advice.

Longlisted 12:

Kidderminster:

David Sidwell and his Choc ‘n’ Hog mobile catering service, Justine Bowman’s The Sweet Fayre sweet shop, Amy Elliott and her Dress My Day business to provide wedding accessories, Katie George’s Bobbins Sewing School for children, Jennifer Lander-Clarke’s JLC lunch club and Jan Golding and her Roots HR company.

Stourbridge:

Dan Taylor, who has set up a therapy unit, Tracey Durkin and her one-woman painting and decorating company, Alison Barton, fresh out of university and now running her own photography business, Terrie Beardsmore’s Dunsley Hall Hotel at Kinver; Katie Brown who provides glamourous parties for girls with her Little Divaz company and Laura Davies, who has set up a low-cost fashion and jewellery business.
