EARLIER this year, students cooked a selection of food to promote their involvement in a Health week.
Food technology teacher, Miss Savage, explained: “During the lessons, the students made fruit smoothies, French stick pizzas with healthy toppings and fruit muffins with no added sugar. They are learning how to make the sort of nutritional choices which go towards creating a very healthy lifestyle.”
Themed lessons across the curriculum also made the students more aware of how knowledge about relationships, drug education and emotional health can be used positively in their everyday lives. Physical activities such as ski-ing, self defence and yoga were also arranged so that students could take part in a range of events.
The whole week was organised by teacher, Miss Kay Hodgetts, who co-ordinates the personal, religious and physical area of the curriculum. She said: “Having gained the Healthy Schools status, we are continually promoting activities which give children the skills and knowledge that help towards making informed choices.”
The school is involved in a countrywide initiative which is known as the National Healthy Schools Programme.
