WHAT is Sixth Form like is a question that, at this time of year, is running through the many minds of leaving year 11s but there is a pretty simple answer, it is a whole new experience, writes LEWIS CARTER.
It isn’t just the change of building, the advanced syllabus or the discarding of the dreaded uniform. In Sixth Form everyone seems to form a community; you find yourself in company with people you hardly ever interacted with in lower school.
The Woodfield building has two computer rooms so you don’t have to wait to get on a computer. Also, it is mostly Sixth Formers who are taught there so you don’t have to worry about younger schoolchildren running around. And after all that studying, you can relax in the common room or the refectory, which has vending machines.
I asked Will Jacobs, a fellow Sixth Form student at Sixth Form, what he thought and his reply was unequivocal: “Sixth Form is great. You can study the subjects you want to do. This gives students a positive attitude towards work and means good grades for everyone!”
Jade Woodall agreed: “The teachers are approachable. If you’re having problems with a subject you’re encouraged to talk to the relevant teacher, and they’re always willing to give up their time to sort things out. Plus, the social side is brilliant!”
