EARLIER this year Adam Nutland, a year 11 student, celebrated beating the number one ranked Scottish junior table tennis player in a British league match.
The victory is the latest milestone in a highly successful year for the talented pupil. After a recent four star tournament in Derby, he reached the last 16 out of 125 players and his ranking of 35th in the country is now set to rise.
Adam is considered to be the most dedicated and highest achieving young table tennis player to come from the Wyre Forest area in a generation.
He plays for the West Midlands regional team and is ranked number one Junior player in the Worcester county area. During the 2008 season, he won eight individual and team trophies in the Kidderminster league which included 56 out of 57 wins.
Adam is passing on his skills by assisting with coaching sessions at Franche Primary and Hagley RC Secondary School.
Adam, who enjoys his role as team coach, said: “I’m particularly proud of the Franche junior team who have not lost a game in the league for two seasons.”
Adam and his team mates at Wolverley CESS represent Worcester in the national Schools tournaments and have won the zone finals against four adjacent counties for the last three years. He hopes to be just as successful in the English Schools individual regional event which takes place later this year in Doncaster.
Miss Kay Hodgetts, the PE curriculum team leader, is proud of Adam’s achievements and of his commitment, commenting: “He has managed to direct a huge amount of energy into his chosen sport and has encouraged his team mates to widen their horizons and play and practice to improve their own game at challenging venues locally and outside the area.”
