KIDDERMINSTER Rotary Club has pushed the Millbrook Appeal closer to its target with a £2,500 donation.
The club held its first Corporate Friends of Rotary meeting last month, where the cheque was presented to League of Friends chairman David Wase.
The donation came from the club’s funds, the Rotarians themselves and the new group of Corporate Friends.
Ken Adderley, president of the club, said: “Rotary is an organisation of businesses and professional men and women, united world-wide, who volunteer their time and talents to provide humanitarian service and help to build goodwill and peace in the world.
“The ideal of service is exemplified in Rotary's motto, 'service above self', which is the thread that links Rotarians around the world and unites like-minded men and women in thought and action, no matter where they live.”
Donations over recent years have paid for equipment for the Flying Doctor Service, a disabled toilet for the new scout hut in Rhydd Covert, a new PA System for Kidderminster Disabled Club and furnishings for Abbeyfield elderly care homes.
The Rotarians are currently supporting young carers of school age, Acorns children’s hospice and the Millbrook Appeal.
Margaret Plumley, fund-raising team leader, explained: “The idea of setting up Corporate Friends of Rotary is to get local businesses involved in our local community.
“They will also have the opportunity to meet like-minded professionals providing networking and business opportunities and get to know us better.
“Being a Corporate Friend need not involve any time commitment, but friends are welcome to attend social events, for example theatre visits, barbecues and ladies’ evenings.”
