A DEDICATED runner pounded the streets of Birmingham to raise £300 for the Millbrook Suite.
Daniel Webb was one of 12,000 people who took part in the city’s annual World Half Marathon, as a tribute to the Millbrook staff who treated his fiancee for cancer.
Mr Webb, 25, from Cleobury Mortimer, said: “It was a great day. It is great to be part of events like this where everyone gets involved - I hope they stage it again next year.
“I finished in two hours and 12 minutes, which is five minutes up on last year. This is the second year Birmingham has staged a half marathon and my second year too.
“I enter so I have some motivation to maintain a good level of fitness and if some money can be raised for a good cause along the way that's great.”
Mr Webb said he was “amazed” at the support he had received from people when he announced he was taking part in the half marathon.
He added: “While asking for sponsors it always amazes me how generous everyone is even in these hard times.
“On three occasions where I have asked people for donations they have mentioned a family member having or had treatment at the Millbrook Suite and could not speak highly enough of the service. These individuals also made very generous donations.”
The event saw amateur athletes tackling the 13-mile circuit side-by-side with costumed charity fundraisers, attracting crowds of spectators through the city centre.
