A WOMAN who bravely battled breast cancer with the help of the Millbrook Suite is using her artistic talent to boost the appeal.
Margaret Summerfield, of Damson Way, Wribbenhall, is selling a painting of the riverside landscape in Bewdley, with proceeds going to the unit.
The 72-year-old started treatment at the Millbrook six years ago and still visits for an annual check up.
She explained: “I did this painting and I thought, ‘I like that one’ and I thought other people would like it too and the prints could well sell.
“It’s one way I can help in a practical way. It’s a gift I have and I want to use it to help them.”
Mrs Summerfield, who is also a member of Bewdley Choral Society, has 50 prints in stock and hopes to sell another 50 if they prove popular.
She decided to support the appeal as she wanted to repay the staff for the “fantastic” care they gave her when she was ill.
She added: “I think because I feel like I’ve been given another bite of the cherry, I want to give something back.
“Money doesn’t always bring happiness, so I would like the money I make from these paintings to go to a worthy cause.”
A former ward clerk at Kidderminster Hospital, Mrs Summerfied explained many of the Millbrook Staff recognised her when she first went there for treatment.
“They are all so friendly,” she went on. “I’ve had friends who were terminally ill and the support the families were given was very good - they were very kind and caring.
“They have time for you and they work very hard to look after you.”
Mrs Summerfield’s prints are available by contacting her on 01299 404407 or emailing raynola@tiscali.co.uk.
They can also be bought from Forever Christmas in Load Street, Bewdley.
