I HOPE that you were able to enjoy the festive period and received some nice gifts. Have you thought about protecting your new, and not so new, possessions?
Wyre Forest is a low crime area and has fewer burglaries than the national average. There have also been fewer offences than this time last year. However, there can be an increase after Christmas so it pays to be on your guard.
Most burglaries are carried out by opportunistic thieves and householders should make sure their homes are safe and secure.
On January 4 West Mercia Police launched a Safe & Secure initiative under the banner of Operation Protect. By taking simple steps to protect your property you can make it more difficult for thieves and decrease the chance of becoming a victim.
Make sure you leave lights on when you go out and use timer switches to make burglars think you are at home. Keep doors and windows securely locked.
Another way to reduce your chances of being targeted is to mark your property with either an ultra-violet pen or a forensic marking product.
Locally, Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) are being issued with ultra- violet pens. Members of NHW should contact their coordinators. Anyone wishing to join or form a new NHW can contact Mel Clarke 01527 586206 or their Local Policing Team (LPT).
Your LPT can also supply small tamper-resistant labels (about the size of the new 2nd class stamps) which you stick on your property. These can be placed discreetly, for example, at the back of your TV. Wyre Forest Neighbourhood Wardens can also supply these in areas which they patrol.
More details about home security and your Local Policing Team can be found on the West Mercia website at www.westmercia.police.uk
