A KIDDERMINSTER theft victim is "over the moon" after receiving a donated mountain bike to replace one which was stolen.
Sally Hitchen, 13, of Sutton Park, was left devastated when her "pride and joy" - a red and black Apollo mountain bike - was snatched from the back garden of her home last month.
Town firm Spokes - which restores bikes - came to her assistance, however, after seeing the police appeal for witnesses in the Shuttle/Times & News.
Organisation bosses called the police to leave their contact details and, last Saturday, Sally was presented with a reconditioned 14-gear mountain bike.
Her mother, Mandy, said: "Sally was absolutely distraught when she discovered her pride and joy had been stolen. Her father had given it to her as a Christmas present last year and it was very expensive."
Mrs Hitchen added: "I can't thank Spokes enough. They have made my daughter's year. She is absolutely over the moon."
Spokes, based in Lupin Works, collects second-hand and discarded bikes and re-builds them. The firm's aim is to reduce the demand on landfill and promote a healthy form of transport.
The firm is run by Bizmatch - part of registered charity, Workmatch - and also has a dual purpose to provide advice, training support and employment opportunities for people requiring support.
Assistant manager, Ian Plumley, said: "After reading the article in the paper I contacted the police leaving the firm's details and they put us in contact with the mother.
"We know how hard it can be, particularly when people become victims of theft, and that's why we decided to step in and help.
"It's good to give a donation to a good cause and we are only too pleased to help out," Mr Plumley added.
