Children can take part in a range of Recycle It workshops organised by eco-artist Sophia Burge.
She has always had an interest in arts since school and decided teaching and working with children was what she really enjoyed.
Sophia said: “Working in schools and realising the importance of recycling I offer the opportunity for children to learn new skills and allowing them to create something colourful and fun to take home. It is amazing what you can create from everyday household, unwanted materials.”
Green Frame Arts is based on Sophia’s belief that children need to understand, explore, preserve and appreciate their environment. Sophia encourages children to use their imaginations and simple materials and techniques, rather than relying on technology or expensive gadgets.
She has created eco-warrior characters who help her to collect materials. Their names are R.T.Ed and Princess Nature and they will be with her during the Arts Festival. Sophia runs a workshop every Saturday morning in Kidderminster with ideas for a new creation, using anything from plastic bottles to fabrics.
She added: “I am looking forward to being involved in KAF this summer for the first time. I have grown up in Kidderminster and there were never many opportunities to make art outside of school when I was younger.
“For the future I hope to inspire more children to recycle and use their imaginations to create something they can use and enjoy.”
Sophia’s workshops are booking up fast so go to www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk/summer or call 01562 732984 to book.
