Since April 2010, President Mrs Janet Ince's speakers have reflected her theme 'History is Around Us'and the Club has enjoyed talks from the following speakers: Mr Richard Perrin, Chairman of Bewdley Civic Society, who illustrated his talk on 'A Short History of Bewdley' focussing on the role of the River Severn, the town's architecture and its famous connections.
Mr Godfrey Jones fascinated members with his illustrated talk on 'The History of Pound Green'. A small common of about 55 acres, this is an area of Special Scientific Interest within Wyre Forest and shows how ordinary people lived in earlier times.
Mr Robert Barber, a well-known local historian and author on Kidderminster's industrial past, spoke of how the vision of a small number of Kidderminster businessmen resulted in the Sugar Beet factory commencing operations in 1925 and played an important role in the local community until recently.
Mr Charles Talbot, founder Trustee of the Carpet Museum, recounted the story of the Museum over the past four decades. The dedication of the volunteers has been rewarded with the granting of a Heritage Lottery Grant in September 2010 to enable the Museum to have a permanent home for its outstanding collection in the restored Stour Vale Mill.
In January 2011 Mrs Amis is talking on Stanley Baldwin: Worcestershire Man and as President Janet's year draws to a close, the topic for the March meeting is Nursery Rhymes and Traditions.
The Club meets every month (except August) on the 1st Thursday for business and coffee at Baxter Church and on the 3rd Thursday for a speaker and supper at La Brasserie Restaurant.
