Together with Soroptimists around the world celebrating the 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day on 8 March, Kidderminster members, wearing purple, met for coffee in the Rowland Hill Centre. They were joined by Sorooptimist Anita Fenton from the Jakarta Club in Indonesia who is visiting the area making it an international day. Over the morning several other ladies joined in on this day to celebrate the economic, political and social achievements of women, past, present and future. The first International Women's Day events were run in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland in 1911 attended by over one million people. This year at the event in London, performer and social activist, Annie Lennox led a mass march across London's Millennium Bridge for charity. In Washington D.C., over a thousand people descended on Capitol Hill demanding a better world for millions of marginalised women and girls around the globe and Sydney, Australia hosted a major international businesswomen's conference.
