At the Club’s recent Annual General Meeting, Outgoing President Janet Ince reflected on the year’s activities emphasising the wonderful fellowship and friendship shown. Her speakers connected different threads from her theme of ‘History is All Around Us’, from Kidderminster’s industrial history of sugar beet and carpets, to Bewdley’s Civic heritage, the influences of Stanley Baldwin and Pound Green’s natural landscape.
Club activities included raising over £1,700 for Water Aid, Earthquake Victims, the ‘Loves Me, Loves Me Not’ bookmark project, Special Schools Awards, Soroptimist International’s Project Sierra, our Regional project – Fresh Start Uganda and support for Women in Zimbabwe.
For the first time in the Club’s history the position of President is being held jointly between Denise Carson, Shirley Bonas and Stephanie Ainsley. All have been President before, with Shirley Bonas more recently in the Club’s 60th year. Their theme is ‘Interesting People; Interesting Lives; Diversity of Skills’.
A varied and exciting programme has been arranged with speakers who will focus on Education, Environment, International Goodwill and Understanding, Peace, Health and Creativity. A number of social and fund raising events are planned, including a summer outing to Leasowes Park, Halesowen in July.
