HARTLEBURY Castle has been filmed for a tv documentary presented by Michael Portillo.
Filming for The Great British Railway Journeys took place last month and is scheduled to be aired in early 2012.
Travelling around the UK by train, Michael Portillo uses a copy of Victorian cartographer George Bradshaw’s Railway Companion to compare and contrast modern Britain with that of around 1860.
Alison Brimelow, chairman of Hartlebury Castle Preservation Trust said: “The wonderful history of Hartlebury Castle and its stories helped flag the castle as a potential location for the documentary. It’s such a fascinating place and I think Michael Portillo agreed. He seemed amused of the anecdotes surrounding the history and gave particular interest to the Hurd Library.
She added: “It’s such an honour to have been considered and I hope have the opportunity to draw attention to the castle to a wider audience.”
The trust is trying to raise £2.2 million to acquire the property. The castle will be put on the open market next year and the trust would like to preserve its heritage for the local community.
