ORGANISERS say the first week of Kidderminster Arts Festival has been a huge success.
Thanks to sunny days, the street shows have been really popular and most of the workshops have been full. There are still lots of acts to see and plenty to do.
Don’t miss the exhibition of urban art at the Library Gallery. It continues until Saturday, September 3.
Check out Comberton Hill subway. It’s had an amazing face lift painted by Pistol.
The Circuit Benders workshop was met with great enthusiasm and the artists from KAF Creatives who ran the event are considering a repeat performance. Tristan Rowley said: “We will look at holding further workshops on a weekend as many interested people were working so couldn’t attend.
“Running the workshop as part of KAF was a good way to try out our ideas and gauge interest. The workshop ran in the Boar’s Head in Worcester Street, where they are keen to support the arts.”
The Subway Deluxe workshop last Friday was also very well attended and people were keen to stay and make stencils. Loz Samuels, arts development officer for Wyre Forest District Council, said: “We are keen to keep working with the Boar’s Head as it’s a great venue and they are supportive of the arts.
“The town seems to be really embracing the festival now. We have more volunteers coming forward and people travel in especially to see acts and come to workshops.”
Market days have been bought to life with an array of performers from all around the country, which shoppers have clearly enjoyed.
If you see a show pick up a feedback form from a member of staff and you could be in with a chance of winning cinema tickets for the Reel Cinema in Kidderminster. The information on the forms helps the council bring in funding for the festival each year.
Loz Samuels said: “The response has been great this year, with high audience numbers so far. I’m excited about the performers who are coming to Kidderminster for the rest of the festival, so don’t miss out.”
