Members of Kidderminster Soroptimists have designed and made a quilt to give as part of the Cultural Olympiad of the 2012 Games. The project set up by two quilters, Jenny Rundle and Sharron Garrick, encouraged quilters and stitchers all over the UK to make and donate 500 patchwork quilts. The quilts are to be given to each country participating in the London Olympics and Paralympics in 2012 as a unique sign of friendship and peace.

As part of the Club’s programme work on International Goodwill and Understanding, members put their sewing skills to good use working together to make a quilt. Entitled ‘Garden of Friendship’, it was designed by member Linda Cocksedge and incorporates features of the UK – formal gardens and the shape of the Union flag.

The quilt was handed to the A Gift of Quilts team at the recent Festival of Quilts at the NEC and Club members plan to travel to London for the exhibition at Olympia in March 2012 when the quilt will be on display alongside the other 499 donated quilts. At that time the quilts will be allocated to the participating countries and Club members will be interested to learn if their quilt is given to a country with Soroptimist links.
