Following January 2011's highly acclaimed talk on the World War II Enigma Machine, Dr. Mark Baldwin, an expert of World War II events, spoke about British agents, focussing exclusively on women agents. He emphasised that they were agents and not spies, sent to aid and facilitate local resistance actions on the Continent.
His account - support by some amazing slides - of just four of these remarkable women: Odette Hallowes, Violette Szabo, Noor Inayat Khan and Nancy Wake, one of the Allies' most decorated servicewoman of the war (who died only in August of this year), told of beauty, intelligence and incredible courage, of capture and escape, horrific torture and miraculous survival for just some of them.
Hosted by Kidderminster Soroptimists at Baxter Church, the audience were totally inspired by this very professionally delivered lecture, being very informative and illuminating, even harrowing at times.
