A SPECIALIST acquired brain injury unit at Shatterford has won an award just three months after opening.

Park Attwood Care Centre opened following a £1 million pound refurbishment.

Owner James Driscoll, creator of the Shoe People and entrepreneur, acquired Park Attwood with his son Adam 18 months ago and was in London as the care centre was named the Most Outstanding Brain Injury Unit In The UK for 2011 in awards presented by the Over 50’s Housing Weekly News.

Park Attwood is a 15-room facility offering care, clinical support and rehabilitation to people suffering acquired brain injury and other neurological conditions. It also offers respite in six care suites and a day care facility.

The awards, held at Westminster Hall, recognise and reward facilities and locations for the housing of the over-50s.

Receiving the award for Park Attwood, Mr Driscoll was described in the citation as an “an interloper to the sector who had vision for the care of those with difficult and specialist clinical conditions”.

He paid tribute to the team that had helped in the design, creation and implementation of Park Attwood.

Thirty members of staff have been recruited for the initial phase, with another are to be taken on as Park Attwood develops.

Park Attwood was granted CQC registration in June, 2011 and started its admission programme in September, this year.
