STOURPORT will be going Italian with a weekend of themed activities.

An Italian cabaret will take place at Stourport Civic Hall on Friday at 7.30pm, followed by a food market in the Civic Centre car park on Saturday from 9am until 4pm.

It is being organised by the Civic group, with support from Stourport Forward, Stourport Town Centre Forum and Wyre Forest District Council.

On Friday, a group of local singers will perform a night of Italian themed cabaret, including Jonathan Darby and Claire Darby of the Stourport Choral and Operatic Society and Julian Richards, fresh from his recent performance in Calamity Jane.

It will feature traditional Italian opera and modern Italian-inspired numbers from the likes of the Rat Pack.

The food market on Saturday will comprise of 18 stalls selling the tastes of Italy such as parmigiano-reggiano, prosciutto, salami, olives, extra virgin olive oils and more.

There will also be an Italian travel advice surgery from Midcounties Co-operative Travel and a prize for the best dressed shop window, organised by Stourport Town Centre Forum.

Simon Faro, owner of specialist market orgainsers Italia in Piazza, said: “I am thrilled to be bringing the market to Stourport.

“We are looking forward to contributing what is gearing up to be an exciting and eventful Italian weekend in the town.”

Vice chair of the Civic group, John Caldwell, said: “We are immensely proud of being able to bring such a range of different events to the town.

“The cabaret show and the market are just further examples of the kind of events we want to bring to Stourport for everyone to enjoy.

“Local people have told us what they would like to see at the hall and we are trying to deliver.”
