KIDDERMINSTER'S Amy Smith produced a fine display but was unable to book a final spot in the 100 metres freestyle tonight.
The 25-year-old was racing in a very strong second semi-final and came close to her personal best with a time of 54.28 seconds.
But it wasn't enough as she finished eighth in her race to be denied her first ever Olympic individual final.
Team GB friend Fran Halsall came fourth in the same race, which was enough to make tomorrow night's final.
Smith will be going for glory in the 50m freestyle heat on Friday morning (10am).
