A STOURPORT resident fears falling branches from trees lining a main Wyre Forest road could cause a serious accident.
Brian Arnold, 78, of Windermere Way, was walking his neighbour’s dog along Minster Road when he was hit on the shoulder by a falling branch.
When he looked up he noticed many trees were dead, with broken branches on the floor or hanging from other branches.
He continued along Minster Road and Stourport Road and said he found trees beside the carriageway and in the central reservation also disintegrated.
A Worcestershire County Council spokesman said a tree specialist would inspect before deciding whether or not to take action.
Mr Arnold said: “I put my hand on one of the trees and it started rocking, there is no doubt in my mind I could push it on to the road.
“There must be at least 12 of those trees I saw which are all in need of taking down because they are dropping branches.
“If one of those trees or branches fell and hit a car doing 70mph the chances are it is goodnight. I am very worried something will happen.
“The trees continue up towards the school and I see mothers pushing prams past them every day.”
Jon Fraser, county council customer and community manager, said: “We have requested our tree specialist to make an inspection of the trees and will decide on any appropriate action once we have received this report.”
Mr Arnold also expressed concern that Wyre Forest District Council workers cutting grass beneath some of the trees were in danger.
Linda Collis, district council director for community wellbeing and environment, said: “We’d like to thank the resident for highlighting a potential issue.
“Where our parks team members are cutting grass they always check to make sure the area where they are working is safe.”
