AS UKIP MEP for the Wyre Forest region I write to congratulate Kidderminster's Independent MP, Richard Taylor, for voting in favour of a referendum on the EU Reform Treaty.
The treaty is virtually the same as the failed EU Constitution and hands over significantly more powers to Brussels.
The government was elected on a manifesto guaranteeing a referendum on the EU Constitution but they have broken that promise.
Whilst MPs last week rejected proposals to hold a referendum, Dr Taylor was one of 248 MPs to vote "yes."
He has shown that an independent MP can work for the majority. He is able to vote with his conscience and for community benefits rather than party loyalties. For this he deserves congratulations.
Before it can be ratified by Parliament this treaty will go to the House of Lords (where there are two UKIP Lords) allowing another shot at derailing the EU gravy train.
UKIP is backing an amendment calling for a referendum. I believe Dr Taylor will back this and hope he also considers the UKIP call for an amicable separation from what is now the "European Empire" (the words of EU President Barroso).
People are becoming more and more aware of the fact that the UK is governed by the EU which craves political power. UKIP will not stand against Dr Taylor at election time if he agrees "Britain is better off out."
Independent minds reflect the truth.
