IT IS sad to hear that Nigel Knowles has information about community transport in this area which is quite out of date (Funding headache on community transport, Letters, March 27) Toc H closed their voluntary car service here in March 2006, taking away funds and goods provided by and for local people.
Three members of that project recognised the real need and restarted the same work within two weeks under a new charity, the Community Transport Helpline.
There was great support from some local authorities, funding charities and individuals, and we were able to keep our office in St Anne's Church, Bewdley.
We have our own special wheelchair car and are an active part of the Worcestershire Community Transport Network.
We have 1,500 registered passengers in this area and 55 volunteers willing to help them with essential journeys, including the more distant major hospitals and respite centres.
We don't have big posters on our cars - we simply get on with the job of providing personal help to disadvantaged people within the funding we receive.
Nigel Knowles is right in thinking there is a shortage of funding and if he wants to help I hope he will come to see this operation for himself.
Community Transport is alive and working but more funding means we can help more people.
