The AGM for Horticultural Society was held on January 21.
President Vic Powell was in the chair for the election of officers.
Derek was then re -elected as Chairman for another year.
One member Chris Parker wished to resign after many years.
She was a very valuable member on our quiz teams and we shall miss her gardening knowledge at the Shows etc.
Derek thanked Chris for all her past support.
He also thanked everyone for having braved the cold evening.
As there were no other nominations the rest of the Committee agreed to stay and continue with their posts and were all reelected.
Mike Hughes out treasurer was happy with the accounts for 2014 and said we had donated £500 to Acorns Hospice and purchased a small Marquee for £200.
Derek gave his review looking back over 2014.
He said it had been a very successful year and we had seen many new faces.
During the year we had had three great coach trips thanks to Chris Russell’s organization to Ashwoods the gardens of John Massey, Shugborough Hall and gardens at the ancestral home of Patrick Lichfield and also to Chatsworth House.
The annual holiday had been spent looking around the houses and gardens of Kent and we had stayed in the comfortable Mercure at Royal Tunbridge Wells We had also paddled in the sea at Camber Sands and explored Dungerness.
We had enjoyed an hilarious last evening dressed in “Flower Power”.
We returned home exhausted. We had also enjoyed three produce/cookery Shows organized by Robin Saunders during the year.
There had a crowded room in July 2014 for the Summer Social with Bev Peg and again in October 2014 for the Harvest Supper with Barry North.
After the Review Derek introduced Graham Baldwin one of our members who had prepared a wonderful DVD for us with pictures taken on our holiday.
He must be congratulated for all the time and effort he put in to present such wonderful pictures on the screen accompanied by such appropriate music which blended in to enhance each scene.
The group were reminded of all the historic castles of Hever, Sissinghurst and Scotney.
He had also shown us pictures of Penshurst Palace and when one of the ladies Bridget Edge thanked him at the end oh his presentation and said that she was a freelance gardener and had worked at Penshust and that one of the oak trees was over 1,000years.
Well done Graham.
