The speaker this month was Richard Kendrick. Richard is a larger than life character; he has had a fascinating career catering for celebrities and film crews over the years in many interesting locations. Richard worked in the catering business before selling his car and purchasing a Burger Van, his first job was to provide breakfast’s for 45 people. On retirement Richard had a staff of 30/40 and owned purpose built vehicles comprising of articulated Lorries with a fully equipped and self contained Kitchen units and dining hall trailers. The vote of thanks was given by Mary Wehner.
Following on from our NFWI AGM last month, a recording of the day’s proceedings in London will be available to view online from August 4, www.thewi.org.uk/ am2015 This month’s meeting concluded a contribution for the WI Moon Mission Miles; Areley Kings WI members have collectively achieved a total of 688 miles, 2 miles of which included canoeing by president Patsey Anderson.
The competition winners this month are: Joint 1st Margaret Cook and Ann Lakin, 2nd Val Osbourn and 3rd Lin Edwards.
The next meeting will be September 14 7.30pm and will be WI day. To commemorate this occasion WI members will plant 100 bulbs on the grass verge by the road outside the Village Hall. There will be a Victorian Tea for refreshments and Kate Reid will give a demonstration on making wire jewellery. The competition will be to wear a hat from the last 100 years, with the option of wearing a matching costume.
