The president, Chris Rostron, welcomed everyone to the 95th Birthday celebration of Blakedown W.I.
Having attended a recent W.I meeting, she discovered that Blakedown was the oldest group represented there. The president also welcomed new member Sandra Lloyd and the speaker the Reverend Peter Holzapfell. Elaine Tickle was thanked for the beautiful flowers she had provided for the front table.
June Gordon, acting as the secretary for the evening, continued with the evening’s business. Following the minutes she mentioned the successful trip to Stratford and the forthcoming one to the Christmas market in Bath. This again is being organised by June herself on the 1st December. The President described the visit to the fascinating Carpet Museum in Kidderminster, where the history of that industry is being kept alive. All present enjoyed the relaxing social occasion.
Many thanks to Jan Cook and the helpers for organising the food. Following this, the Rev Peter gave a wonderful reading of John Betjeman’s poems. The president warmly thanked him and then asked Jan to cut the birthday cake. It was delicious and provided locally from Crumbs. The president brought the very successful evening to a close.
