ASTLEY HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY: On May 18, Derek Walker introduced Kath Thornton, spoke about the bumblebee. She began by telling us all about the importance of the special "Bumblebee Conservation Trust ". Sadly over the years Britain has lost 97% of our wild flower meadows and also two species of bees have become extinct. It also helps when beekeepers look after the honeybees.As gardeners to contribute bee-friendly flowers into our gardens rich with pollen and nectar.
On May 22, members visited Lower Hope Gardens at Ullingswick, Hereford five miles South of Bromyard. The gardens are privately owned by Mr and Mrs Richards who open each year to the public for the National Garden Scheme and other charities.
On June 5, the group went to Hidcote Manor Gardens, a National Trust Property situated near Chipping Camden and one of the top gardens in the Cotswolds famous for its " gardens within gardens".
July 11-15 the group is on holiday to the Isle Of Wight. On July 23, there is a Summer Social with comedian Dave Chance and vocalist Nicky Moran,
