ARELEY KINGS WI: Vice president Katie Reid opened the meeting which was followed by a rousing rendition of Jerusalem. Katie warmly welcomed everyone to the meeting and introduced the speaker Karen Doyle, a Cancer Research Nurse based in Birmingham.

Karen is a senior Cancer Research Nurse and has a team of nurses working with her. Karen explained their work and how their research programme is improving the prognosis for many Cancer sufferers. It was explained to us what actions we can all take to help avoid cancer: stop smoking, eat more fruit and vegetables, keep to a healthy weight, avoid alcohol, use a sun block and exercise regularly, an above all seek advice if you need to. Were you aware that in the UK we get more cases of type 4 Melanoma than Australia! Although Cancer Research funding is from charitable donations, their results are used worldwide to help fight cancer. The vote of thanks was given by Katie Reid for a very interesting, enthusiastic and animated presentation which was very much enjoyed by everyone.
