ASTLEY HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY: On September 20, chairman Derek Walker welcomed the speaker for the evening. She was Helen Goddard Key a Director from " Fibrex Nurseries" which is located at Honeybourne Road, Pebworth, Stratford-upon-Avon. She had brought along a wonderful display of Pelargoniums (Geraniums). She explained that the Family business had started over 57 years ago with the third generation now carrying on.They are the proud owners of The National Collection of Pelargoniums which is the largest in the world. Fibrex has regular entries to The RHS Chelsea Flower Show and also the Malvern Spring and Autumn Shows. She explained that Pelargoniums are commonly known as Geraniums a large diverse group. She had brought along a great selection of plants of every hue and at the end of her talk members were allowed to purchase them after question and answer time.
Show secretary Robin Saunders and the committee of Astley Horticultural Society were pleased with the Autumn Show held on September 30 held in the Village Hall. There was a good turnout of visitors despite the weather and the quality of the exhibits were excellent 24 exhibitors 166 entries, plus Astley School).
