The club’s annual outing took members to Hampton Court Gardens in Herefordshire. A break at Ledbury en-route allowed members to enjoy the beautiful little market town with its quaint cobble streets. Members were able to wander through at leisure, finding hidden wonders in old fashioned shops and many coffee bars tucked away. The travellers arrived at Hampton Court Gardens at mid-day on one of the best weather days of the year.
The first stop was a tour of the house which was led by a well- informed guide who detailed the different families who had lived and owned the house over the centuries, up to the present day.
Members were then left to their own devices to wonder around the large gardens and plant collections. A very good day out was had by all.
Dr John Page gave a talk on ‘The Joys of English Gardens’ at the July monthly meeting in Clent Parish Hall.
Films of gardens over the whole country were shown, with lots of new ideas being learnt by the audience. The turn-out for this meeting was excellent with around 65 people attending, including 10 new members.
The plants-for-sale stall, all provided by members from their gardens, was practically emptied.
At the next meeting, on Friday, August 23, Sue Russell will be talking about ‘Perfume in the Garden’.
All are welcome.
