The WI has arranged their 89th Birthday Dinner for Tuesday, October 26 at 7pm for 7.30pm at the Granary Hotel.
Members will be going on the Christmas shopping trip to Nottingham on November 8, and there is the carol concert on November 18.
The Worcestershire Weekend visit to Denman College has been arranged for August 12-14, 2011.
Treasurer Eileen Whitfield gave details of the end of year accounts at the latest meeting.
Mrs Dawn Nex, accompanied by her husband, was the speaker, with her theme ‘The Amish Way of Life’.
Dawn explained some of the religious history of Europe and Great Britain in the 1400-1500s which eventually resulted in the Amish arriving in the USA.
Girls always wear white pinafores until they marry, after which it is always black. Boys are clean shaven until marriage, then they always have a beard. Everything is very plain and they possess no more than ‘essentials’. There were many interesting facts and figures and a few surprises. Everyone enjoyed the talk and the slides displayed by Mr Nex. The next meeting and agm will be held on Monday, November 1, Susanne Owen, the group’s WI Advisor, will be attending. The committee will be providing a ploughman’s supper.
