WOLVERLEY WI: As 2018 begins, all members are looking forward to our meetings and celebrations this year.
We are in excellent company for this our centenary year, since also celebrating centenary years are the RAF the WRAF was also founded, the right for some women to vote, the end of World War One and English Heritage will also be celebrating 100 years since Stonehenge was given to the nation.
1918 also saw the end to the Penny Post; the school leaving age raised to fourteen, the first performance of Holst's The Planets took place at Queen's Hall, London and on Christmas Eve there was held the first Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at King's College, Cambridge.
The first meeting in 2018 will be held on February 5, with speaker Geoff Bailey on The Four Invasions of Kidderminster. There will also be a bring and buy table at this meeting, so bring any items you may have. Members are also reminded subs will be due at this meeting.
There is a full and varied programme organised for our 100th year and look forward to enjoying the year in the company of friends old and new.
The WI meets on the first Monday of each month in Wolverley Church Hall at 7.30pm. All are very welcome. If you would like to find out more, please see any member or visit our Facebook page.
